30 June 2010 - Colonel RM Brennan RIP |
|
|
|
We are greatly saddened by the news that Colonel Roy Brennan died, unexpectedly, on Sunday, 27 June, shortly after returning from holiday in Germany.
Born on 10 March 1931, Roy Michael Brennan was commissioned into the Royal Artillery on 08 February 1952. A keen cricketer, he was a left arm spinner who played in 4 Gunner-Sapper matches, the first two at Lord’s. In his final appearance in 1971, at Woolwich, he captained the side. He was Chairman of the RACC from 1975 to 1980 and had been a Vice President since 1984.
Colonel Brennan took early retirement from the Army to become Secretary of the Army Sport Control Board and Secretary of Army Cricket, a job that he did for eight years.
The funeral is to be a private family affair and there is to be no subsequent memorial service. A full obituary will appear in the Gunner in due course.
Our thoughts and sympathy are with his family.

24 June 2010 - Match Result: Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers v RACC |

REME 256 all out RACC 212 all outThe Gunner challenge for the 2010 EDF Cup foundered, today, at Arborfield against a solid performance by REME in the semi final. REME batted first and posted a total boosted by 35 extras, but achievable. RACC was unable to field it's strongest side but started well with Spence and Kane showing early form; Brian Spence going on to top score with 65. The skipper, Tim Osman, also made his half century with 55, but the loss of Heyns, who has been in spectacular form, for a duck did not help the cause.
The runs did not come fast enough and, in the end, 44 runs separated the sides. Overall, that was probably a fair reflection on the day's play. Well done REME. The final awaits you at Aldershot, good luck. Full match report and pictures to follow.

08 June 2010 - Match Result: RACC v Corps of Army Music |
|
|
CAMUS 76 - 8 RACC 77 - 0The Gunners opened their account at the 2010 Inter Corps Twenty20 with a pretty straight-forward win against The Musicians. In a rain reduced match, RACC elected to field having won the toss. Oli Burwell, now a seasoned opening bowler for Army, took half of the wicket haul with Dave Norbury, Ian Forrester and Steve Booth sharing the others.
Kane and skipper Osman were the only batsmen needed to chase down the Camus total which was reached just short of six overs. A couple of lively sixes in Tim's knock but it was all over before he could make his half century and he had to settle for 45.
